Malta
joins the Schengen Area Agreement
With
effect from the 1st January 2008, Malta has been accepted as a full
member of the Schengen Area Agreement, eliminating controls on cargo and
passengers coming into Malta from another Schengen Area member or going
from Malta to another Schengen Area member. The system is already
in operation for cargo and passengers arriving or leaving from Malta by
sea. Malta's airport is being upgraded for the same purpose and
will be in operation even for cargo and passengers arriving or leaving
Malta by air from the end of March 2008.
